Good news for those who were missing the strengths of a diesel engine in a Honda CR-V. According to some reports, Honda is looking forward to launch a Honda CR-V powered with a diesel engine this year. It is rumored that the CR-V diesel will be priced around 25 lakh rupees in India.

Some of you will be surprised to know according to Honda sales literature in UK the CR-V stands for ‘Compact Recreational Vehicle’ and Japanese Honda fact books say it stands for ‘Comfortable Runabout Vehicle.’

The CR-V loosely originated from Honda Civic when the Japanese car maker felt the need of adding a Sports Utility Vehicle to their line of products.

In India, the CR-V is currently produced with both an all wheel drive and a front wheel drive with two petrol engines.

Honda CR-V facts -

Chinese CR-Vs are produced by Dongfeng Honda Auto Company a joint venture of Dongfeng and Honda. American CR-Vs will also be produced in Jalisco, Mexico in addition to US, Japan and Britain due to increasing demand of CR-Vs in America.

    @Fiat Fan- well they need to plan it out. Do they have the capacity in their plant to manufacture an additional engine? I think their focus would be on Dzire, Swift, Ritz and SX4s now and not a diesel motor for the Vitara.

    @TAI – Yes, I also saw the spy pic. The thing is Honda wants to prioritize their launches. The Jazz and the City were important models and for bringing them in, it took them all their time. I hope by the end of this year the CR-V diesel will come. I also read that CR-V sales have not been all that good and a 25 lakh CR-V is not going to improve the situation any further.

    @Dean – yes, diesel is cool :-)

    Definitely a good addition to the market. Diesels are big now days

  3. Hey Shrawan,
    I’ve been hearing of diesel CR-V since last year, Even Honda has tested it on Indian land too. Hope it makes in actual this time. :)

    But the GV is sold with a 1.9 Ddis engine. It is either in Australia or Europe. Then why not India?

  5. Jaz says:

    @Fas – GV diesel will never come, I mean, which engine would Suzuki use? They can’t use the 1.3 Multijet as that would be terribly underpowered for such a car..I don’t think it will ever come

  6. Much needed diesel is finally coming. I guess the competition made them do this. What about the GV Diesel then, it will come sooner.
