Rendering – Honda New Small Concept (Code : 2CV)

The Japanese magazine’s representation is light years away from the concept shown in January

Thanks to Autoten, we’re able to show you a possible look of the Honda New Small Concept scheduled that could come out next year.

Codenamed 2CV, the compact car will sit under the Honda Jazz and take over the mantle of the entry-level model in many countries. While initial reports suggested the car would not be sold in Europe, the Japanese magazine reports the company’s Indian plant will manufacture cars for exports.

The magazine has also published details on the dimensions of the product – approximately 3700*1680*1550 (L*W*H) in dimension. The base petrol engine would be a 3-cylinder 1.0-liter engine for the European market. The 1.2-liter engine is for the Thai market. We assume the 1.2-liter engine will be offered on the Indian version.

The magazine reports the small car will hit the Indian market first by Q1 of 2011.

Honda studying small diesel engine for India

Honda City – Deserve a diesel heart

Some good news for Indians who have been waiting for a diesel car from Honda. The company is conducting studies to develop a diesel engine for Indian market. Let us be more specific and set the expectation straight. The development is at initial stages and at best indicative. Honda wants to flourish in emerging markets and realizes that a small diesel engine is required to sell more cars.

No time lines are available on the launch and specifications of the engine. We are very much awaiting the diesel City or even a diesel Jazz. The diesel option on these cars could be a very attractive package and provided the pricing is sensible, these cars could be game changers for Honda.

Rendering – Honda New Small Concept (Exclusive)

Honda’s small car could take on the Suzuki Swift with a smaller 1.1-liter petrol engine

After an extended period of absence, photoshop freak SRK is back in action. The first of his drawings is this – production model of the recently showcased Honda New Small Concept.

SRK has not taken the trouble to crystallize a new design. He’s given the concept realistic door handles, pasted a new bumper with fog lamps, toned down the lines around the car and colored it using new paint.

What Honda should do, unlike Suzuki did with the A-Star, is borrow as many things possible from the concept. If their small car looks identical to the concept, then Honda will once again have the upper hand in terms of design over Toyota Etios hatchback. Honda should not produce a vehicle that doesn’t share a common vein with vehicles like the Civic and City just because it costs considerably lower.

We’re told Honda could use a 1.1-liter petrol engine on the 2CV (codename). Atypical a Honda, diesel engines could be saved for another day. Honda could target the Suzuki Swift with its sub-5 lakh price tag and the Swift Dzire with a sub 6 lakh price tag.

Honda small car sedan on its way too?

Honda_small_conceptHonda’s new small concept platform will spawn several variants

Take for instance the Tata Indica. It was born as a hatchback. A few years later, it was transformed into a sedan. Then it became a station wagon and then immediately, it greeted us as a limousine. It soon went back to being a sedan again, this time shorter and more powerful.

The Suzuki Swift, which always was supposed to stay as a sporty hatchback with great handling, was converted into a sedan. This happens/happened only in India.

Companies want to cash in on the demand for sedans in our country. Owning a sedan means you’re well off. You have climbed one more step in the ladder which leads you to a Mercedes Benz.

According to a report in newspapers, Honda will introduce sedan version of New Small Concept (Codename – 2CV) in India. While Honda in India denies it, a regional head has spoken about it. He clearly states that the platform will not be left unused after the hatch enters production.

Fumihiko Ike, chief operating officer of regional operations, Asia Oceania, Honda Motor Company -

There will be multiple models coming out of the small car platform after its launch in 2011. We will explore a sedan, too, using the same platform to make maximum use of our resources.

This two-prong strategy is not new to Honda in India. The Jazz in truth is the hatchback and the City is its sedan version. Body panels and exterior components are not similar making the relationship not very obvious. Honda could dress the sedan version of the 2CV to make it appear like a completely different product. They could place it between the 2CV and the Honda Jazz as a mini-City.

Interesting, as the City itself is referred to as the mini Civic in other countries.

Rendering – Honda’s small car (Exclusive)

Honda_Maza_2CV-mainHonda’s small car might not even be close to this, but a brief inspection of the competition led us to this image

Our photoshop master SRK was handed the task of compiling a drawing of Honda’s upcoming small car meant for the Indian market. Codenamed 2CV, our sources tell us the the upcoming small car might use a 1.1-liter petrol engine, with no diesel in the equation. We were also informed that the engine could share commonalities with the 1.2-liter unit on Jazz. The use of Honda’s cutting-edge VTEC technology was not confirmed.

Honda has not spoken about the car’s specification, so the above is purely speculation.

The Honda 2CV will be is engineered to outrun the Swift and Ritz from the Suzuki stable, which command a high market share in its segment.

SRK designed the Honda 2CV after going through some of its competitors which includes Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10, Fiat Punto, Tata Indica and Suzuki Ritz/Splash.

Honda CBR250RR for the less experienced comes out next year

Honda_CBR_250RRThe CBR250RR is for the rookie biker looking to get an eye in

According to sources, Honda might launch CBR250RR with in a year’s time in the European market. This bike would be meant for those people who have interest in biking but are less experienced. The bike is expected to have an aluminum frame; the engine would consist of an upgraded version of the 250cc V-twin engine of VTR250.

With the Indian market starting to get exposed to bikes such as the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, I think it would not be a bad move if Honda launches their CBR250RR in India as well. Honda has already launched their super bikes like CBR1000RR and CB1000R which have made their presence in the superbike segment felt in our country.
