The next generation Toyota Rush a.k.a. Daihatsu Terios could be launched in India to rival the Hyundai Creta. Prices of the upcoming Toyota compact SUV will fall in the Rs. 9-14 lakh range. Read on to know more about 2018 Toyota Rush launch in India, expected price, specifications and other details.
The second generation Toyota Rush currently sold in countries like Malaysia and Indonesia. It is based on the Daihatsu Terios but has a slightly longer wheelbase to accommodate a third row of seats. The Daihatsu Terios nameplate might be unheard of in India, but the first generation model made it to India in the form of Premier Rio – a compact SUV manufactured under license by PAL that was launched in October 2009. The current generation Rush has been around since 2006 and the next generation model codename D14N is due in 2018. TKM announced its intentions of launching a compact SUV in India in May 2015 and it is this new model based on the Daihatsu FT Concept that may be launched as Toyota Rush.
Model Name | Launch Date (expected) |
New Toyota Compact SUV (Toyota Rush) | End 2018 |
Spy shots of the Rush first surfaced online in December 2014 and have been fuelling rumours of the Toyota Rush India launch. However, those test mules bearing MH 14 plates were likely being used by a rival manufacturer for bench marking purposes as TKM’s manufacturing unit is located near Bangalore in Karnataka. Also, the current generation will require extensive R&D to make it compatible with a diesel engine, a must for the Indian market. But investing in a model that is due for an upgrade in 2018 is not feasible so, in all probability, it is the next generation 2018 Toyota Rush that will come to India. The Toyota/Daihatsu D14N is expected to be launched in Indonesia sometime next year and could arrive in India by the end of 2018.

Top Model | Rs. 13.00 Lakh |
It is unclear whether the upcoming Toyota compact SUV will be sub 4-meter offering to rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza or slightly larger to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta. Currently, the Toyota Rush measures about the same as the Creta but comes with three rows of seats.

Engine | 1.5 L 3SZ-VE VVT-i Petrol |
Power | 109 PS |
Torque | 141 Nm |
Transmission | 5-speed Manual/4-speed Automatic |

It is hard to say which engines will power the next generation Rush. Petrol variants of the Rush will continue with a 1.5 L Petrol unit, but it could be a 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine. For the Indian market, Toyota may consider using the 1.4 L Diesel mill that powers the Corolla Altis. The Etios’ 1.4 L diesel that makes just 67 PS might be considered underpowered for the compact SUV.
Variant | Estimated Overall Fuel Efficiency |
Petrol | 18-19 KMPL |
Diesel | 22-23 KMPL |
Again, since there a lot of uncertainty surrounding the engine and transmission options the 2018 Toyota Rush will receive, it is difficult to estimate the fuel consumption figure.
The Rush is designed to be a recreational urban SUV that blends the qualities of a 7-seat MPV with the high seating position and enhanced ground clearance of an SUV. The upcoming 2018 model will be based on the Daihatsu FX and FT concepts that were unveiled at the 2015 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. Since the two are just concepts, the actual model will look different. However, the concepts still give us a fair idea as to what the next generation Daihatsu Terios aka Toyota Rush may look like. Toyota could adopt the “Distinctive Diamond” design philosophy for the new Rush, something we have seen on the 2018 Toyota C-HR. Much like the current generation model, the third generation Terios aka Rush could be launched in short wheelbase and long wheelbase formats based on the FX and FT concepts respectively.
Like the exterior, the cabin could be a toned down version of the FT or FX concepts. The dashboard could blend cues from the concepts with Toyota’s driver-centric “MeZONE” orientation. Toyota will offer the Rush in two configurations – 5-seat and 7-seat.
For a car more than a year from launch, it is tough to predict the exact set of features it will come with. However, we expect it to get
