Tata Motors will launch at least nine new cars by 2021. The roster of upcoming Tata cars in India include all-new models and new versions of the existing products.
Upcoming Tata Cars in India
1. Tata Tiago JTP
Tata Motors has joined hands with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives for the development of a performance-oriented version of the Tiago. Known as the Tata Tiago JTP, it will become the most affordable performance-focussed hatchback in the country. Powering the Tiago JTP will be the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that powers the Nexon. This engine offers a maximum power of 110 PS along with a peak torque of 150 Nm. The Tiago JTP will also get a performance-tuned gearbox and a stiffer suspension.
2. Tata Tiago EV
First shown as a concept in the UK in September last year, the Tiago EV finally made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2018. Development of the Tata Tiago EV took place at the Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC). Powering the all-electric hatchback is an electric motor that outputs 30 kW (40.21 hp) at 4,500 rpm. Powering the electric motor is a 216 Ah battery. It takes 360 minutes to charge this battery from 0 to 80% using a regular charger. A fast charger can energise it in just 90 minutes. The Tiago EV has a driving range of 130 km along with a top speed of 100 km/h.
3. Tata Tigor JTP
Akin to the Tiago JTP, the Tigor sub-4-metre sedan will receive a performance-honed variant through the Tata-Jayem partnership. The Tigor JTP will get the same Nexon-sourced 1.2-litre engine that will power the Tiago JTP. It will output a maximum power of 110 PS along with a peak torque of 150 Nm. Like the hatchback sibling, the performance Tigor will offer several styling updates, including a sportier grille, bolder bumpers, and several red accents. The Tigor JTP will become the most affordable performance sedan of the country.
4. Tata Tigor EV
Tata Motors delivered the first batch of Tata Tigor Electric Vehicles to EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited) late last year. Like the Tiago EV, the all-electric Tigor gets a 30 kW electric motor. The all-electric drive system for the Tigor EV comes from Electra EV.
5. Tata 45X
The Tata 45X premium hatchback is another promising upcoming Tata cars in India. The adversary to the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 will get more powerful versions of the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel motors of the Nexon. The production-spec 45X will become the most premium hatchback to have ever come from Tata Motors. Expect it to command a significant price premium over the slow-selling Tata Bolt.
The 45X will launch next year and will become the first of the many Tata cars that will ride on the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP).
6. Tata X452
By 2020, Tata Motors will launch a new mid-size sedan to rival the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Ciaz. The upcoming mid-size sedan will be based on an expanded platform of the 45 premium hatchback. Underpinning the new car will be the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). The new three-box model will share plenty with the premium hatchback including the reported dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Looking at the mid-size sedan segment in India, models offer either a 1.5- or a 1.6-litre engine, and Tata would look to match, if not exceed, the on-paper and on-road performance of competitors.
7. Tata Hornbill
The Tata Hornbill is another of the upcoming Tata cars that will be built on the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). The Hornbill will launch around 2021 to challenge the Maruti Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100. It is the same small crossover that was so far known as the 'Tata X445'.
Akin to competitors, we reckon it will get a 1.2-litre petrol engine that will be available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automated manual transmission.
8. Tata Harrier
Easily among the most highly awaited of all upcoming Tata cars, the Harrier is based on the H5X concept that was seen at the Auto Expo 2018. The Harrier will launch early next year and rival the top-end variants of the Hyundai Creta and the lower versions of the Jeep Compass.
Powering the Harrier will be the same 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine that powers the Compass. However, for the upcoming Tata SUV, the engine will offer a slightly lower power output. The future flagship from Tata will launch with a six-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced six-speed automatic transmission.
9. Tata H7X
The H7X will be a bigger variant of the Harrier that will offer seven seats and a more powerful engine. Underpinning the H7X will be the same Land Rover D8-derived OMEGA platform that will make its debut on the Harrier. The H7X will rival top-end variants of the Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, and the lower trims of the Honda CR-V. The H7X will become the flagship offering from Tata Motors. Safely expect it to offer a long list of features.
