The latest Hyundai Verna was launched in India in August last year and it still commands a waiting period of 1-1.5 months. There are reports of long waiting periods for the diesel engine-powered configurations. 60% of Hyundai Verna buyers go for the diesel engine.

The Hyundai Verna was launched with a 1.6-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine and a 1.6-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine. The smaller and cheaper 1.4-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine was added to the options in January this year.

The 1.4L petrol engine produces 100 PS and 13.5 kg.m (132.39 Nm) of torque. The 1.6L petrol engine develops 123 PS and 15.4 kg.m (151.022 Nm) of torque. The 1.6L diesel engine delivers 128 PS and 26.4 kg.m (258.90 Nm) of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, but the 1.6L engines, which are the most powerful in the segment, are available with a 6-speed automatic transmission optionally.
