The deliveries of Honda’s top-of-the-line adventure motorcycle, the Africa Twin have commenced in India. The bike is brought into the country via the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route and is priced at INR 13.06 lakhs, ex-showroom, New Delhi.
Honda has received 50 bookings thus far. The Africa Twin is Honda’s first 1000 cc motorcycle to be assembled in India and is available at Honda ‘Wing World’ dealerships across 22 cities in the country.
The Africa Twin is powered by a 999.11 cc twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which generates 87.1 bhp of power at 7,500 rpm and 91.9 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed dual clutch transmission with two modes- ‘D’ and ‘S’. The former enables fuel-efficient riding while the latter is more performance oriented, with three different shift patterns to choose from.
Another unique aspect of this bike is the G-mode, which enhances the off-road capability of the bike. This system tinkers with the control of the clutch system to give a more direct drive. The bike is also equipped with HSTC (Honda Selectable Torque Control) and switchable ABS for added versatility offroad.
The semi double cradle frame is suspended by 45 mm Showa cartridge style adjustable inverted forks up front and an adjustable gas-charged monoshock at the rear. The front forks offer 230 mm of travel and the rear wheel travel stands 220 mm. The bike tips the scales at 245 kg kerb and the ground clearance stands at 250 mm.
