First images of the ASEAN spec 2018 Suzuki Swift have emerged from Thailand. The spy shots of a camouflaged test unit of the new Swift undergoing real world testing were published by Auto Deft. On paper the ASEAN spec Swift would be closer to the Indian-spec 2018 Maruti Swift and it is less sophisticated than the JDM spec.
The images do not reveal much in terms of design details. However, since the third generation Suzuki Swift is already on sale in multiple international markets, the exterior or interior design is no secret. The 2018 Suzuki Swift can be seen sporting LED tail lamps and 12-spoke alloy wheels. The headlamps are standard halogen units indicating that this could be a lower or mid level trim as the top-end trim is expected to feature projector units with LED DRLs.
The test mule is finished in black as evident from the door handles and ORVMs. Upon closer inspection, the request sensor on the front door handle can be seen clearly which means the car will get keyless entry. It also features ORVMs with integrated turn signals.
In India, the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift will be armed with the same 1.2 L K12 petrol and 1.3 L DDiS diesel engines. However, this time around, both engines are likely to get an optional 5-speed AMT. Like the new Dzire, the power and torque outputs will not see revisions. The Swift's 1,197 cc petrol makes 84.3 PS and 115 Nm while the 1,248 cc diesel outputs 75 PS and 190 Nm.
According to media reports, MSIL will showcase the new 2018 Maruti Swift at the Auto Expo that kicks off on February 9, 2018. It will be launched around the same time at an estimated starting price of INR 4.80 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Production of the new Swift will commence this October.
