HMIL digitally revealed the fifth generation Hyundai Verna last week. Speaking on the sales target for the new car, the company says they intend to deliver around 10,000 units by Diwali. Pre-bookings for the 2017 Hyundai Verna are currently open, and August 22 has been set as the launch date. It is one of the eight new products Hyundai intends to launch in India by 2020.

The Hyundai Verna will face stiff competition from the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz. However, Hyundai is confident of achieving a sales target of 4,500 units a month.

Speaking at the official unveiling, Mr Y K Koo, Managing Director, and CEO, HMIL said that the company hopes to sell around 4,500 units of the new Verna in the domestic market a month. With a segment size of around 12,000 units a month, achieving sales of 4,500 seems like a rather ambitious target seeing as the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz already average more than 5,000 units a month. However, Koo seems confident that the new design will help Hyundai meet the target. He added that they are targeting exports of 60,000 units of the new Hyundai Verna to markets in the Middle East, Europe, Latin America and Asia.

The 2017 Hyundai Verna is based on an all-new K2 platform with Advanced High Strength Steel making up 50% of its composition. The styling based on Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 is new and brings about additions like the cascading grille - a staple Hyundai design element, LED tail lights and headlamps with projector units and LED DRLs. The car rides on new 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The cabin of the new Hyundai Verna gains a 7-inch touchscreen, ventilated seats, and a sunroof.

HMIL has earmarked 60,000 units of the new Hyundai Verna for exports annually to the Middle Eastern, European, Latin American and Asian markets.

At its unveiling last week, Hyundai revealed two powertrain options for the Verna - 1.6 L Gamma petrol and 1.6 U2 CRDi diesel. These engines have a power output of 123 PS and 128 PS respectively and will get 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. Hyundai is yet to reveal the car's interior, but expect it to be largely similar to the 2018 Hyundai Accent.
