The Verna nameplate first made an appearance in India in September 2006. While internationally it replaced the Accent, in India, it was sold alongside the second-generation Accent owing to the significant price difference between the two. It received a facelift in June 2010 but was replaced by the new generation Fluidic Verna less than a year later in May 2011. The second generation Verna (fourth generation Accent) received a facelift in February 2015. It remained the segment leader until the launch of the current generation Honda City in December 2014. Over the past six months, however, it has been unable to register four digit sales averaging just about 800 units a month. The India bound new Hyundai Verna (Hyundai Accent) made its global debut in Canada in February 2017 and is already on sale in markets such as Russia (Hyundai Solaris) and China.
