Ahead of the festive season, Renault is gearing up for the launch of the Renault Captur (Renault Kaptur) in India. The company is testing the new compact SUV across various terrains in the country, from the high-altitude mountains of Ladakh in the North to the urban roads of Chennai in the South. In the latest, The Automotive India forum reader AppU spotted a top-spec Renault Captur testing near Chennai.
The Renault Captur is Renault's second entrant in the compact SUV segment. The Captur is 4,333 mm long, 1,813 mm wide and 1,613 mm tall, and has a 2,673 mm-long wheelbase. In the overseas specification, it offers a ground clearance of 205 mm, and a boot space of 387 litres, which is expandable to 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded.
Renault will likely sell its second B0/Logan platform-based SUV in India with the 1.5-litre H4K petrol and 1.5-litre dCi diesel engines from the Renault Duster. The petrol engine produces 106 PS and 142 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is made in 85 PS/200 Nm and 110 PS/245 Nm specifications. The Captur should get this engine in the 110 PS/245 Nm variant. Renault could offer the petrol Captur with 5-speed MT and CVT choices and the diesel Captur with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AMT options. 4WD system availability is expected, something not offered in the Hyundai Creta. Renault could take a phase-wise approach to the rollout of the variants, as it did with the Duster.
