Tata Motors has released new info on the features of the upcoming Nexon. The compact SUV, in production form, was first showcased at the Auto Expo in February 2016 and then at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. It will go on sale during this festive season and rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport.
Among the highlights of the Nexon's features list is the Multi Drive Mode selector. This rotary knob placed behind the gear lever lets the driver toggle between Eco, City and Sport driving modes. As the names suggest, the Sport mode allows for spirited driving while Eco mode favours mileage.
The Nexon features a floating Dashtop high definition touchscreen. This 6.5-inch unit acts as an interface between the user and the HARMAN sourced infotainment system. There are eight speakers on board, which Tata claims, offer a personalised home theatre experience. This infotainment system also supports Android Auto with Apple CarPlay support being introduced at a later stage. Android Auto enables the user to access calling, messaging, navigation and voice assistance from the infotainment system via the USB cable.
Part of the Nexon's "Grand Central Console" is a sliding tambour door mechanism that houses a storage space. It sits behind the multi drive mode selector knob and next to a passenger grab handle. Recent spy shots also reveal features such as keyless entry and adjustable rear headrests.
Specifications of the Tata Nexon was announced last week. The X1 platform crossover comes with a new 1.2 L Turbocharged petrol engine with 110 PS and 170 Nm on tap. The diesel variant receives a new 1.5 L Revotorq unit that makes 110 PS and 260 Nm. Both engines come with a new 6-speed manual transmission.
Production of the upcoming compact SUV commenced around July 20, 2017, at the Tata-FCA Ranjangaon manufacturing facility. When it launches in late August, prices could start at around INR 6.5 lakhs, and certain dealerships are already unofficially accepting bookings for the Tata Nexon.
