Volkswagen started production of the 2017 VW Polo at the Volkswagen Navarra plant in Spain this month. The new generation VW Polo world premiered last month.
The first 2017 VW Polo produced at the Spanish plant was painted with the 'Orange Energy' colour. Made in Comfortline trim, the car had a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine paired to the 5-speed manual transmission. By November this year, Volkswagen will ramp up the production of the sixth-gen VW Polo to 1,400 units per day.
The 2017 VW Polo is 4,053 mm long, 1,751 mm wide and 1,446 mm tall. It has a 2,564 mm wheelbase and offers 351 litres of boot space. Volkswagen will offer the MQB A0 platform-based redesigned Polo with nine Euro-6 engines in the following configurations:
- 48 kW (65 PS) 1.0-litre MPI petrol, 5-speed manual transmission
- 55 kW (75 PS) 1.0-litre MPI petrol, 5-speed manual transmission
- 70 kW (95 PS) 1.0-litre TSI petrol, 5-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
- 85 kW (115 PS) 1.0-litre TSI petrol, 6-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
- 110 kW (150 PS) 1.5-litre TSI Evo petrol, 6-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
- [GTI-only] 147 kW (200 PS) 2.0-litre TSI petrol, 6-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
- 66 kW (90 PS) 1.0-litre TGI CNG-petrol, 5-speed manual transmission
- 59 kW (80 PS) 1.6-litre TDI diesel, 5-speed manual transmission
- 70 kW (95 PS) 1.6-litre TDI diesel, 5-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission

Full-LED headlights with LED DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights and panoramic roof are the 2017 VW Polo's exterior highlights. On the inside, the Polo Mk6 features second-gen Active Info Display virtual instrument cluster, 8.0-inch glass-encased infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink, wireless charging and 300-watt Beats sound system. Front Assist area monitoring system with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring and Blind Spot Detection with Rear Traffic Alert are among the key safety and driver assistance features.
The 2017 VW Polo will go on sale in Spain in October. The model is not on the Indian business plan.
