The VW Polo aims to be the benchmark in Europe's B-segment.
The 2017 VW Polo unveiled last week is set to enter Europe and UK later this year. Here's how it compares with the 2017 Ford Fiesta, 2017 Nissan Micra and the Hyundai i20.
Except for the Hyundai i20, all models in the comparison recently underwent a full model change this year. The VW Polo is the longest, widest and the shortest in this race, and offers the most amount of boot space. Its wheelbase is second to only that of the Hyundai i20. Naturally, as it is a Volkswagen Group model, it gets 9 engine options - the most in the class - and the 2017 Polo is the only car to have a petrol-CNG engine option. With the 200 PS 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine (in the GTI variant), it is the most powerful candidate.
Volkswagen will offer the 2017 VW Polo in Trendline, Comfortline, Highline, Beats and GTI equipment lines and R-Line, Black and Style optional packs. Depending on the configuration, key standard and optional features include full-LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, second-generation Active Info Display fully digital instrument cluster, Air Care Climatronic climate control system, 8.0-inch glass-encased infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink and 300-watt Beats sound system.

The new VW Polo will be made by the Volkswagen Navarra Plant in Spain, where it will go on sale in October 2017. More facilities around the world, including the one in South Africa, should start making the sixth generation model next year as Volkswagen sets in motion the car's global rollout sequence.
