Royal Enfield’s last major launch was the Royal Enfield Himalayan.

With a staggeringly high growth rate, Royal Enfield motorcycles had an unchallenged run in the premium segment till the Bajaj Dominar 400 launched this year. However, Mr Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Director of Eicher Motors is unfazed by the rise of the challenge reveals a report in Business Standard.

Royal Enfield in the 250 cc+ segment, the company has 95 percent market share with around 50,000 units sold every month, Mr Lal said

If you look at 250-cc plus motorcycle market in India, every 19 of 20 products are sold by us. This is reality. It is not that easy to unseat someone who is doing this. We don’t want to cater to everything. We want to stick to our core and do what we do well.

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 was recently introduced in new Redditch series of colours which has been readily accepted by the public. The company is also working on a new twin cylinder powerplant which will be housed in what’s possibly going to be called the Royal Enfield Continental GT 750, due out this year. However, Royal Enfield does not look like a brand that will diversify into sporty bikes or segments outside its core competence.

The future though is set to get more challenging with Honda re-entering this displacement bracket with a product that targets RE's dominance.
