India first market to get CVT option in the compact SUV.
Renault will expand the Renault Duster range in India with the launch of a petrol CVT option in May 2017, as per a report from carandbike. The compact SUV is already available with an AMT option, which was launched last year on the diesel variant.
The development was confirmed by Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and Managing Director, Renault India. "We are launching the all-new petrol Duster with CVT, so we bring automation there also," Mr. Sawhney said.
The Renault Duster is currently available in 15 different configurations, and only two of them are in petrol. Duster petrol buyers have no choice other than to go for a basic manual transmission, as the AMT option is reserved for the diesel model.
The Renault Duster petrol is powered by the K4M 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 104 PS at 5,750 rpm and 148 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. The Duster CVT, though, will get the updated H4K 1.6-litre petrol engine which came a few years after the launch of the K4M.

Renault will likely offer the Renault Duster H4K 1.6L CVT only in the mid-range RxL and the top-end RxZ trim levels. The CVT model should have a fuel economy rating of about 14 km/l, as compared to the current K4M 1.6L 5MT model's fuel efficiency figure of 13.06 km/l.
