BMW X2 also confirmed for launch next year.
The BMW X7 was announced in 2014, and in the latest, Harald Kruger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, has confirmed that it will arrive in 2018. The BMW X7 will rival with the Land Rover Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes GLS and the likes.
The BMW X7 (codename: BMW G07) will add to the BMW X series range as the much-needed full-size luxury SUV. The flagship SUV is currently under the road testing phase and has appeared in spy shots on several occasions. Reports say that the BMW X7 will sit on the CLAR rear-wheel drive platform of its sedan equivalent – the BMW 7 Series. BMW will offer the X7 in two versions: three-row, 7-seat and two-row, 4-seat. The latter will target customers seeking for more luxury in the same way the Volvo XC90 Excellence does.
BMW will likely offer the BMW X7 with a variety of six- and eight-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, along with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel drive system as standard. The company may equip the SUV with an all-wheel drive system also as standard. The range should include an iPerformance plug-in hybrid variant and even a high-performance M variant. There’s still no confirmation on whether a V12 engine option is planned.
The BMW X7’s production will take place in Spartanburg, USA. Before its launch, the BMW X3 will arrive, with its debut scheduled to happen later this year. In 2018, the BMW X2 too will hit the international markets, the company confirmed yesterday.
