Neelanjan Chakraborty, Motorcycle Nut, will ride, preferably race anything on two wheels!

Bajaj’s partner KTM has been building electric motorcycles since 2012.

A report in Bikewale reveals that Bajaj Auto is contemplating on introducing an electric two-wheeler. The product could be a motorcycle or scooter.

KTM E-SX side
Bajaj’s partner KTM retails three motorcycles, two off-road and one road going version.

The motorcycle is still some time away, possibly a launch in 2020. Bajaj’s partner KTM has been building electric motorcycles since 2012. In its present form, the electric motor is used in three enduro models. The engine has a rated output of 15 hp and a max power output of 22 hp, while the torque output is 42 Nm, all of which is delivered from the word go.

Bajaj’s electric two-wheeler may draw inspiration from the KTM E-ride models, although the Indian product can be expected to be a road going model and possibly having a longer range. While electric two-wheeler industry in India is still very nascent, Bajaj’s entry can be a significant push.

KTM E-SX side
All three are powered by an electric motor capable of producing 42 Nm of peak torque.

Bajaj has not yet officially confirmed its plans to work on alternate energy. With Bajaj going premium, an electric vehicle based on products like the Bajaj Dominar 400 can be a boon to the segment.
