Will reportedly be launched in August 2017.
FCA India started operations with the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee models last year. Steep pricing and limited options have led to a mediocre response for these models, but for its game-changing product, the Jeep Compass, the company will follow a different strategy.
According to a new report from Autocar India, the 2017 Jeep Compass will be available in a variety of configurations right from launch. The company's first locally-made SUV in India will be available with petrol and diesel engine options, an automatic transmission as well as a four-wheel drive system.
The global-spec 2017 Jeep Compass is available in four trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. Five four-cylinder engines, including 1.4-litre FIRE MultiAir 2 petrol, 2.0-litre Tigershark petrol, 2.4-litre Tigershark MultiAir 2 petrol, 1.6-litre MultiJet II diesel and 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel, are offered. 6-speed manual, 6-speed dual-clutch automatic, 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and 9-speed automatic are the transmission choices. Some models are front-wheel drive, but in the others, Jeep Active Drive full-time 4x4 system/Jeep Active Drive Low full-time 4x4 system with 20:1 crawl ratio are offered. In all, there are 17 different configurations.
The Indian-spec Jeep Compass should come with the 1.4-litre petrol engine and the 2.0-litre diesel engine, with the former paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the latter linked to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Don't expect to see the Jeep Active Drive Low permanent four-wheel drive system with 20:1 crawl ratio, as that is exclusive to the top-end Trailhawk trim level.
Projector-beam headlamps with LED signature lights, LED signature tail lamps, 19-inch wheels, dual chrome exhaust tips, a dual-pane sunroof, 7.0-inch full-color LED instrument cluster, Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 9-speaker BeatsAudio Premium II audio system with a 12-channel amplifier and a subwoofer are the equipment highlights of the 2017 Jeep Compass.

It will be launched in August 2017 with prices likely falling between INR 20 and 25 lakh (ex-showroom). FCA will sell the India-made Jeep Compass in international RHD markets which could include Japan, Australia and the UK as well.
