The (European) Renault Captur arrived in 2013, just months after the Renault Clio Mk4, with which it shares its platform. Renault has now started development of a new generation model of the Clio and Captur. Note that the India-bound Duster-based Renault Kaptur/Captur is altogether a different vehicle.
Renault is testing the sub-compact crossover's chassis using the body of the Clio Estate. It is a little too early to talk about design and styling, but a new concept could be introduced at a future motor show for a glimpse of the new generation model while it takes shape at the company's European design centre, under the watch of design chief Laurens van den Acker.
The Captur could be one of the or the last global small model to incorporate the company's new family design. The interior should mimic that of the next-gen Clio, which Renault has promised would be a revolutionary interior. When we spoke to Lauren van den Acker in 2015, he said the Captur would get better lighting, connectivity and technology.
The CMF-B platform should underpin the second-gen model. Besides conventional petrol and diesel models, the next-gen Captur range may include 'Hybrid Assist' mild-hybrid variant. The new generation Scenic and Grand Scenic were the company's first recipients of the 48-volt hybrid drive from Continental last year.
