TVS Akula 310 was showcased in its concept form at the Auto Expo.
A test unit of the TVS Akula 310 has been spotted by a PowerDrift fan revealing the production version's taillamp. Shaped like a devil’s horn, the LEDs lend the bike a sporty character.
At the heart of the TVS Akula 310 will be the 313 cc single cylinder, liquid-cooled mill borrowed from the BMW G310R and BMW G310GS. In the BMW Motorrad models, the engine is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox and is capable of producing 34 PS of maximum power at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm.
It is not known whether TVS will keep the engine in the same tune as the Beemers or detune it slightly to favour India’s thirst for fuel efficiency. The spy shot also reveals the presence of a rear disc brake. The exhaust canister has been carried forward the BMW G310R.
Unlike the sporty stance seen in the concept model, the TVS Akula sports a comparatively relaxed riding position. TVS with its philosophy of usable power can attract a lot of Indian riders which will make it a better option in cities.
The TVS Akula 310 is expected to be named as TVS Apache RTR 300 and will be priced under 2 lakhs. Considering how aggressively Bajaj has priced the Bajaj Dominar 400, TVS might just pull a surprise. Expect a launch by March 2017 as confirmed by TVS' CFO.
