Expected to be launched in Europe in 2018.
With the third generation Mercedes A-Class scheduled to reach the end of its lifecycle in 2018, Mercedes-Benz has begun testing the fourth generation model (Mercedes W177) earlier this year. Autoevolution has posted a video of the 2018 Mercedes A-Class being tested in Spain.
The fourth generation Mercedes A-Class will be based on a revised version of the MFA front-wheel drive platform called MFA2. The redesigned model will reportedly have a slightly longer wheelbase for increased interior space and the boot space will be increased from today's 341 litres.
The next-gen Mercedes A-Class will reportedly be offered with engines developed in-house as well as sourced from Renault. Besides 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol and 1.5- and 2.0-litre diesel engines, a plug-in hybrid powertrain will be offered for the first time. The conventional engines, which will be available in varying outputs, should bring the engine option count to 10. It will be available with 6-speed manual and 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions, while a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system could be reserved for more powerful variants.

The current Mercedes A-Class isn't sold in the U.S. market, but reports suggest that the next-gen model could be introduced in the U.S market. Its European sales are expected to commence in 2018.
