2017 Ford F-150 delivers better mileage despite increased power

Ford has released the fuel economy figures of the 2017 Ford F-150 pickup which goes on sale in the U.S. market later this month. The new model is more efficient despite the power and torque increments.

The 2017 Ford F-150’s second-gen 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine is mated to a newly-developed 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2017 Ford F-150 is available with the all-new, second generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 gasoline engine that produces 375 hp and 470 lb.-ft. (637.23 Nm) of torque, 10 hp and 50 lb.-ft. more than the first generation engine in the 2016 Ford F-150. The improved EPA-estimated fuel economy figures in city, highway and combined driving are 18/25/21 mpg (+1/+1/+1 mpg) for the 4×2 model and 17/23/20 mpg (+1/+1/+2 mpg) for the 4×4 model.

Changes incorporated in the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine for the second generation are, a new twin-port and direct-injection fuel strategy, lighter and stronger crank and valvetrain components, redesigned twin turbocharger with electronic wastegate, and redesigned valvetrain and variable-displacement oil pump.

The fuel economy has improved by up to 2 mpg in the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 model.

The all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 gasoline engine is paired to the first volume-production 10-speed automatic transmission. The 6-speed automatic and 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmissions from the previous model haven’t been carried forward.

The 2017 Ford F-150 starts at $26,540 (INR 17,70,137.05) in the USA.
