Suzuki Auto South Africa has introduced an automatic option for the Suzuki Vitara SUV. It is based on the 2WD GL+ variant and priced at ZAR 313,900. This is the second variant in the Vitara range to offer an AT option, which was previously exclusive to the top-end GLX.
The Vitara is powered by a 1.6L four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 120 hp and 156 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox (torque converter) that sends power to the front wheels. Also available is a 5-speed manual gearbox in both 2WD and ALLGRIP AWD variants.
The Vitara GL+ comes equipped with seven airbags, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, halogen projector headlamps, single zone automatic AC, keyless entry, fabric seat upholstery, 4-speaker audio system and 16-inch alloy wheels.
As for its Indian launch, the Vitara was spotted on Indian soil in November, generating rumours of its introduction. However, there is no confirmation from Maruti Suzuki on its launch, but a newspaper report from 2014 placed its launch in 2018.
