Will be introduced in Paris on 29 September.
The 2017 Kia Rio was announced last week to have its world premiere on 29 September at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. Based on one of the car’s official teaser images, IAB’s automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania has created a rendering of 2017 Kia Rio to show how it would look in production guise.
With the complete makeover, the Kia Rio is entering its fourth generation this year. The all-new Rio’s exterior and interior design was led by Kia’s design centers in Germany and USA, both of which worked with the main design centre in Namyang, South Korea.
Kia is bringing the new generation Rio in the 5-door hatchback body style in Paris; the 4-door sedan and 3-door hatchback versions should follow next year, if planned.
The Kia Rio sits beside the Hyundai i20 in the Hyundai Motor Group’s B-segment range, and while it would be natural to expect the fourth-gen Kia Rio to be based on the second-gen Hyundai i20’s platform, that’s not the case. European media report that the Rio is based on a newly developed platform which will be used for a new sub-compact crossover as well.
The 2017 Kia Rio should be offered with the same engines as the Hyundai i20. In Europe, options may include 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol, 1.2- and 1.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.1- and 1.4-litre diesel. In other regions including North America, a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine should also be offered. Transmission choices are expected to include 4-speed automatic, 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.
