Toyota Calya mini MPV – 5 things we know

Aravind

Aravind Jayachandran, I'm a huge petrolhead, an automobile engineer, a massive fan of Ferrari, and loves collecting die-cast models for inspiration.

To rival the Datsun GO+ Panca.

At the upcoming 2016 GIIAS, Toyota Indonesia will reportedly launch the Toyota Calya in the archipelago. Here are five things we know about Toyota’s newest MPV.

1. Exterior design

Top-end variants of the Toyota Calya will ride on 14 inch alloy wheels, as seen in the spyshot.

Spyshots have revealed the final exterior design of the Toyota Calya, which draws cues from the Toyota Agya and Avanza. It measures 4,070 mm in length, 1,655 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,525 mm and a ground clearance of 180 mm.

The front-end has a bold chrome bar flanked by a pair of regular headlamps, while the bumper houses a large hexagonal grille and foglamps. At the back, it features Innova-inspired taillamps, roof spoiler and a bold chrome applique above the registration plate area. Top-end variants will ride on 14 inch alloy wheels, as seen in spyshots.

2. Interior design

The interior design is inspired by bigger Toyota MPVs sold in other markets.

The Calya has an interior design inspired by bigger Toyota MPVs sold in other markets, as seen in the console mounted gear lever that sits beside the HVAC controls and floating dashboard design finished in dual tone beige and black. It also gets a three-spoke steering wheel without controls and analogue instrument cluster with a multi-info display and round HVAC vents on either sides.

3. Powertrain

The Toyota Calya is only offered with a 3NR-FE 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 88 PS.

The only engine option in the Toyota Calya is a 3NR-FE 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 88 PS (87.76 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 108 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. It is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, while a 4-speed automatic transmission is available in both grades.

4. Features

The Toyota Calya is available with a 2-DIN music system, power-operated ORVM controls and power windows for first and second row, roof-mounted rear HVAC vents, MID, one-touch tumble second row seats, dual SRS airbags and reversing sensors.
The G grade gets foglamp with garnish, electric mirrors with integrated turn signals, silver trim on door panels and dashboard, chrome HVAC vents and chrome-trimmed gear lever.

5. A Daihatsu version will follow

Daihatsu will also launch a rebadged version of the Calya – dubbed as the Daihatsu Sigra.

Similar to the Toyota Avanza-Daihatsu Xenia relationship, Daihatsu will also launch a rebadged version of the Calya – dubbed as the Daihatsu Sigra. One of the biggest differences with the Calya is that the Sigra will additionally offer a smaller 1KR-FE 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 67 PS (66.06 hp) and 89 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
