Will be based on the AMP platform.
A report last week said that Tata Motors was working on a new hatchback codenamed 'Tata X451', and that this hatchback will rival the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20, VW Polo and Honda Jazz. However, according to a new report on LiveMint, the X451 will be a 'micro-SUV', though its overall size will be that of a premium hatchback.
Tata Motors has floated quotations to its vendors last month, and plans to put the X451 into production in 2017-18, the new report states. The X451 will target the 'urban youth' and is expected to bring in 25,000-30,000 units of sales per annum.
According to the older report, the X451 will be based on Tata's AMP (Advanced Modular Platform). Aside from the X451, this platform will also spawn a mid-size sedan that will target the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and VW Vento.

Engine choices for the X451 will be four-cylinder petrol and diesel motors paired to manual and possibly automated manual transmissions. The four-cylinder engines in question are expected to debut on the Tata Nexon which is anticipated to launch towards the fag end of the financial year.
