A closer look at the spyshot reveals an exterior that looks slightly similar to the outgoing model, featuring the trapezoidal grille, large headlamps and a redesigned bumper with new radiator grille. Reports suggest that the next gen Mini Countryman will look like an “authentic SUV”, and measure just over 4.25 m long (a stretch of 150 mm) and at least 10 mm wider than the current model.

Inside, the design could draw cues from the current Mini Cooper lineup, It will lose the large central speedometer for a conventional unit in front of the re-designed steering wheel. The 2017 Countryman will also feature the Mini Connected infotainment system, as well as new dials and controllers.

The next-gen Mini Countryman will be based on the front-wheel drive UKL platform that currently underpins the MINI 3-doorMINI 5-doorMINI Clubman and the MINI Convertible. It is likely to offer the same MINI TwinPower Turbo three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, as well as transmission options like a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed Steptronic. An exclusive all-wheel drive system will be equipped in the higher-end grades of the Countryman.
