Will be Tata's first ever full electric mainstream product.

Team-BHP have posted new spyshots of the Tata Nano that is reported to feature a full electric powertrain, and have close up photographs of the exposed electric socket on the left rear fender.

It also appears that the ground clearance is lower than the GenX Nano AMT (the heaviest variant in the Nano lineup), due to the suspension being compressed to a point where the wheels fill up the wheel wells. The reason could be the heavy lithium batteries required to power the electric motor. It is likely to be placed on the floor of the Nano so as to lower its center of gravity.

Previewed to the world as a concept at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the Nano EV was powered by super polymer lithium ion batteries that had a 160 km range, and was capable of an acceleration from 0-60 kmph in under 10 seconds. Its production-spec model would rival the likes of the Mahindra E20.

The various incentives offered on electric vehicles as well as the ease of driving a mini EV for quick city runabouts could make the Nano EV an appealing and environment-friendly option to city dwellers.
