The 3-door GTI is reported to launch first.
Back on the heels of a 3-door VW Polo GTI testing in Maharashtra yesterday, Indian Cars Bikes has spyshots of a 5-door VW Polo GTI testing on Pune roads. It is to be noted however that VW India first plans on launching the 3-door Polo GTI, which was also showcased at the Auto Expo this year. The market launch is slated for this calendar year.
Both, 3- and 5-door variants of the Polo GTI are powered by the 1.8-liter four-cylinder TSI engine capable of 189 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Though a 6-speed manual gearbox is available with this engine, the Indian market is poised to get the 7-speed DSG unit, which is actually more efficient than the manual under EU testing conditions.
Where the 6MT Polo GTI is rated at 16.66 km/l and 139 g/km of CO2, the 7DSG Polo GTI is good for 17.85 km/l and 129 g/km of CO2. With the DSG, the VW Polo GTI is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and onwards to a top-speed of 236 km/h.
Interior highlights on the Polo GTI will include aluminium pedals, ‘Jacara’ upholstery, trims with red contrast stitching, a three-spoke 'GTI' flat-bottomed steering wheel and a touchscreen entertainment system with Bluetooth support.
