Will be a LCGC product.
These are the first images of an all-new small MPV from Toyota, which will first launch in the Indonesian market. Reportedly called the Toyota Calya, the MPV is a rival for the Datsun Go+, and will be positioned as a LCGC (Low Cost Green Car) in the island country.
According to Indonesian media reports, the Toyota Calya is based on the Toyota Agya (Daihatsu Ayla) hatchback. Designers have given a fresh look for the MPV whose rear appears derived from the Toyota Innova Crysta. When launched in Indonesia, it will be priced and positioned beneath the Toyota Avanza (Daihatsu Xenia), two of the best-selling MPVs in the Indonesian market.
‘Calya’, a Sanskrit-derived word, means ‘no defects’ or ‘perfect’, according to the source. According to one report, power for the Toyota Calya could come from the Toyota Etios’s 1.2-liter petrol engine, and transmission choices would include manual and automatic gearboxes.
A LCGC, according to Indonesian regulations, must deliver a fuel efficiency of at least 20 km/l with a gasoline engine displacing between 980-1,200 cc. It should also be manufactured in Indonesia with a high-degree of localization.
