City-based MPV expected to premiere in Japan in August.

The next generation Honda Freed MPV was spotted testing in Japan by twitter user '@skyline_0315'. It dons the usual pre-production prototype garb, but reveals some of the design changes we can expect.

The front-end features the new Solid Wing chrome bar flanked by sleek headlamps, and a larger grille.

The exterior will adopt Honda’s new design language, as seen in the new Solid Wing chrome bar flanked by sleek headlamps, and a larger grille. The bumper and radiator intake have been redesigned, while the engine hood appears to be more contoured. The side profile looks largely similar to the current Freed, save for the new A Pillar design. The Freed will keep its sliding rear door.

Inside, the dashboard and cabin design will be updated as well. It could feature a cleaner interior with touch-sensitive controls on the center console, as seen in the Honda Jazz (Fit) and Honda City. Also expected are more interior space, new infotainment system, and an updated instrument cluster.

Reports suggest that Honda will equip its all new 1.0L three cylinder Turbo engine in the next gen Freed. The downsized motor will replace the 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated i-VTEC (petrol) engine, although some countries may continue with the naturally aspirated engine.
