Unrelated to the global emissions scandal.
VW India has temporarily suspended sales of the VW Vento 1.5L TDI with the manual transmission. The company has also issued a recall for 3,877 units of the Vento 1.5 TDI MT, owing to "inconsistent Carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions that were observed to be sometimes exceeding the threshold limits during the Conformity of Production (COP) tests done by ARAI".
The company said in a statement that it is analyzing the issue and is proposing a fix to ARAI at the earliest. The same fix will also be carried out on the affected vehicles already delivered to customers.
This issue is unrelated to the global emissions scandal uncovered last year, where VW and several group companies' products were found to emit 10-40 times NOx emissions than stated. The Carbon Monoxide issue does not affect other VW India products such as the Polo variants, or even other Vento variants (Vento TSI, Vento TDI DSG).
The 1.5-liter four-cylinder TDI diesel engine powering the Vento develops 105 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It will also power the forthcoming made-for-India VW Ameo compact sedan, expected to go on sale in June 2016.
