Duo of Maruti Ignis test mules spied in the wild
Aravind Jayachandran, I'm a huge petrolhead, an automobile engineer, a massive fan of Ferrari, and loves collecting die-cast models for inspiration.
Announced to launch in the festive season.
A couple of Maruti Ignis prototypes were spotted testing in the wild, courtesy of Bharadwaj Balaji from Madras Motorcycles. The sub-4m crossover is expected to arrive during the festive season of 2016, where it will be sold through Maruti’s NEXA dealerships.
The Maruti Ignis made its debut at the Auto Expo 2016 as a near-production concept. It will look largely identical to the Ignis currently sold in Japan, save for a chrome-accentuated grille and roof rails. The Ignis measures 3,700 mm long, 1,660 mm in wide, 1,595 mm in high, has a 2,435 mm long wheelbase and a 180 mm high ground clearance.
The engine lineup of the Ignis has not been confirmed yet, although it is likely to be powered by the 1.2-liter K12B engine with VVT or a 1.3-liter DDiS engine equipped with Suzuki’s SHVS mild hybrid tech. A 5-speed manual will be standard in both models, while a CVT will be exclusive for the petrol variant.
Rivals: Mahindra KUV100, Tata Tiago
Expected Release Date: Festive season 2016
Expected Price: INR 4.5-7 lakhs, ex-Showroom
