Pre-orders to open on May 1.
Datsun confirmed today that the redi-GO will be priced between INR 2.5 lakh and INR 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Pre-orders will open on May 1 for a minimum deposit of INR 5,000.
The exact ex-showroom prices and variant list will be divulged at its market launch in June, and deliveries will commence from the same month. Reportedly, several dealers in Mumbai have already started accepting bookings. So far, they have received 150 bookings in just four days, even without having a demo unit, said a report.
The Datsun redi-GO will pack a 0.8-liter three cylinder engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Power output and fuel efficiency figures will also be revealed closer to the launch, although Datsun claims that it will offer the best-in-class fuel mileage for a compact petrol hatchback.
It is the second product to ride on the same CMF-A platform, and follows the Renault Kwid’s strategy of frugal engineering. Compared to its French cousin, it's lighter, has a longer wheelbase and higher ground clearance (185 mm), which could appeal more to first time car buyers. Inside, however, it doesn’t get the option of an AVN system or a digital instrument cluster, so to keep prices competitive.
