Aprilia brand first needs development, says Piaggio' MD.
Italian two-wheeler manufacturer Aprilia seems to be getting aggressive with its product strategy for India. As per a new report, the company is looking to bring 300 cc - 500 cc motorcycles in the domestic market and these words came from none other than one of their senior officials. Currently Aprilia does not offer products in this class internationally.
Prior to the motorcycles, Aprilia has plans to launch their first ‘Make in India’ product - the Aprilia SR150 scooter in India. The SR150 is slated for its Indian launch in August this year after its mass production kicks off in July at the company’s production facility in Baramati. The crossover gained attention in India after being displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Mr. Stefano Pelle, Managing Director, Piaggio Vehicles told Autocar Professional in an interview, “Yes, we are evaluating (bringing in) the mid-sized Aprilia motorcycles. It is still in the study phase where we try to understand what could be the different segments where we should be. The perception of midsized motorcycles in India is the ones with engine displacement of 300cc-500cc. This is something which could be interesting for us in the future.”
Aprilia is currently enjoying the ownership of Piaggio group that sells its premium products in India through Motoplex stores.
