Reportedly powered by the DDiS 125 engine.
Seen here are the first images of the Maruti Super Carry LCV ahead of its market launch in the coming weeks. Codenamed the Maruti Y9T, the LCV will be called ‘Super Carry Turbo’ in the Indian market.
Maruti’s first LCV will be powered by Suzuki’s self-developed diesel engine, which currently does duty on the Maruti Celerio DDiS. The twin-cylinder 0.8-liter engine develops 47 PS and 125 Nm of torque on the Celerio and delivers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 27.62 km/l.
It remains to be seen if this engine is tuned specifically for the Super Carry, which is expected to sport a 1- and 1.5-tonne payload. Aside from the diesel variant, reports also point out that the Super Carry will be introduced in a CNG trim, borrowing the 1.2-liter engine from the Maruti Eeco.
The Super Carry Turbo is likely to be retailed through an exclusive dealership network, however, Overdrive states that the market launch will take place in a phased manner starting with cities in Punjab, Gujarat and Haryana.
The Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo will be chief rivals of the Maruti Super Carry. Keeping inline with the passenger car market, Maruti is expected to undercut these rivals on price.
