The current, sixth generation Ford Fiesta was introduced at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. The facelifted model was introduced at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The fully redesigned seventh generation Ford Fiesta has been confirmed to be introduced in 2017 and a speculative rendering from OmniAuto.it previews its design.

2017 Ford Fiesta rendering
Ford India is reportedly developing a mid-size sedan to rival the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz. It could differ from the global Fiesta.

The next-gen Ford Fiesta is currently under development in Europe. The all-new model is being tested in the current model's body, spyshots have revealed. Based on spyshots, it is said that the seventh generation Fiesta will be larger than its current generation model which is 3,968 mm long, 1,709 mm wide and 1,468 mm tall.

Reports say that the design would be inspired by that of the facelifted Ford Focus, but that's unlikely given that that design will be old by the time the all-new Fiesta goes on sale. Perhaps, as seen in the rendering, the exterior may have cues borrowed from the 2017 Ford Fusion (facelift) that was introduced at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Launched only in the sedan version, the current generation Ford Fiesta has been a poor sales performer for Ford India.

The 2017 Ford Fiesta will be offered with an array of petrol and diesel engines with displacements possibly ranging from 1.0- to 1.6-litre. More dominance of the EcoBoost turbocharged units can be expected. Transmission choices should include 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.

The current Fiesta hatchback was never launched in India, while the sedan version hasn't been successful sales wise. However, Ford will launch another sedan (codename: Ford B500) developed especially for emerging markets.
