Expected to be introduced first in the VW Ameo.
A recent report indicated that VW India's 1.5-liter TDI engine will get an update later in the year, prior to the launch of the VW Ameo. Aside from the Ameo, this updated engine will also be introduced on the Polo, Vento and Skoda Rapid models.
According to Autocar India, VW will fit a new, locally sourced turbocharger that is larger than the one in the current version, which could increase the power and torque by 2 PS and 10 Nm, respectively. It's unclear if the larger size will affect the low-end response of the engine.
Fuel efficiency could also be improved by 7 percent and the engine will continue complying with BS4 standards. The engine is available in two power states: 90 PS in the VW Polo, and 105 PS in the VW Vento and Polo GT TDI.

When launched in early H2 2016, the VW Ameo will be fitted with the updated 1.5-liter TDI engine, and will come paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed DSG gearbox. Another model to get the new engine will be the Skoda Rapid facelift, which is reported to be introduced in H2 2016.
