The VW Ameo was showcased at the ongoing Auto Expo 2016. The German manufacturer's offering in the compact sedan segment will go on sale towards the middle of this year, the company has confirmed.
The VW Ameo sits on the platform that underpins the VW Polo hatchback and the Vento sedan. Components have been shared with both the hatchback and the sedan to lower cost. On the inside, the compact sedan gets dual tone black and beige interiors, silver trim on the centre console, multifunction 3-spoke steering wheel and a Bluetooth-equipped infotainment system.
The Ameo will be powered by the company's 1.5-liter TDI diesel engine and the 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPI petrol engine. While the diesel engine will be mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG gearbox, the petrol engine will get only the 5-speed manual box.
A rear view camera, VW's MirrorLink system, auto dimming internal mirror, ABS and dual front airbags, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, cornering lights, alloy wheels, automatic AC and a rear AC vent are some of the car's features.
