The new Volkswagen Beetle has been showcased at Auto Expo 2016. The icon was launched after a two-year hiatus in the Indian market on January 18, 2015 at INR 28.73 lakhs.
The new Beetle continues with its curvy, rounded look and gets several design elements that add to the appeal. The face features Bi-xenon headlamps with LED DRLs, front fog lamps with static cornering function and body colored bumpers. The flanks are decorated with protective side moldings embellished with chrome and body-colored door handles. The rear is seen with LED license plate lights and rear spoiler.
Leather has been used in large amounts throughout the cabin with chrome accents adorning the AC vents and rotary light switch. Leather makes its presence felt on the multifunction steering wheel, door trims, handbrake lever and gearshift knob; the seats are upholstered in premium ‘Vienna’ leather. Features that come with the new Beetle are electrically-adjustable ORVMs, dual-zone climate control and a central touchscreen display for the infotainment system.
Mechanically, the Bug gets a 1.4-liter TSI direct-injected petrol engine producing 150 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque between 1,500 to 3,500 rpm. The motor is paired to the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, helping the Volkswagen Beetle achieve an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 17.68 km/l.
