The new VW Beetle has been launched in India at INR 28.73 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). It is available only in select dealerships.
Branded as the 21st Century Beetle, the car returns to the Indian market after a sabbatical of over two years. This time however, the Beetle is equipped with a modern TSI engine.
The new Beetle gets a 1.4-litre TSI petrol motor with a direct injection unit, that generates 150 PS at 5,000 to 6,000 rpm and 250 Nm at 1,500 to 3,500 rpm, and is paired with the familiar seven-speed DSG (automatic). The ARAI-certified mileage of the new model is 17.68 km/l. The car rides on 215/60-R16 alloy wheels.

The other notable upgrades on the car include a four-link rear suspension and an electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering, both of which contribute to enhancing the drive and handling characteristics. The new Beetle is equipped with airbags for driver and passenger which includes front, side and curtain units.
