Only has the option of a diesel engine at launch.
In an interview with Autocar Professional, Mr.CV Raman, Maruti Suzuki's executive director (engineering) has assured that the Maruti Vitara Brezza will have good fuel efficiency figures, like any Maruti should.
He said:
One of the key things Maruti Suzuki is known for is fuel efficiency, and we will not disappoint with this model (Maruti Vitara Brezza) either. We have done a lot of things in terms of technology in order to ensure that the customer gets very good fuel efficiency.
It's unclear by what Mr.Raman meant by "technology". At its unveil during the Auto Expo 2016, Maruti confirmed that it will only be available with a 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine with 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It's the diesel engine that powers all but one of Maruti's highly fuel efficient diesel product range.

However, it will not feature the fuel-saving SHVS mild-hybrid tech from the Maruti Ciaz and Maruti Ertiga, which improves fuel economy by adding equipment such as start-stop system, brake energy recuperation and torque assist. So it could be minor revisions to the engine and exhaust system components, that Mr.Raman is talking about, which should increase mileage.
