In an interview with Overdrive, Mr. CV Raman, executive director of engineering at MSIL has stated that safety was a high priority for the Maruti Vitara Brezza. It is the first vehicle in India to receive the iCat certificate for offset and side impact compliance.
The Vitara Brezza comes with a driver airbag as standard in the base variant, while a passenger airbag and ABS are optional. The compact SUV is based on Suzuki’s global platform, which was developed to meet the tough safety norms in other international markets.
Other aspects Maruti focused on include the feature list. Top-end grades come equipped with SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, inbuilt navigation, reverse parking camera, engine starter button, cruise control, 60:40 split rear seat, projector headlights with LED DRLs and automatic headlights.
Under the hood is the familiar 1.3-liter DDiS diesel four-cylinder engine capable of 90 PS at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Mr Raman claims that the powertrain is tuned to offer a ‘sporty performance’.
