Will be unveiled tomorrow at the Auto Expo.
The India spec Maruti Ignis Concept has been teased on billboards at the New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport, ahead of its unveil at the Auto Expo tomorrow. Our digital artist Shoeb has mirrored the teaser to arrive the full front-end of the crossover.
The Ignis Concept has a few changes compared to the international version, the most prominent being the chrome pack applied to the grille and foglamps. The car is also seen with roof rails and a colour similar to the ‘Torque Blue’ that was offered on the Swift.
Maruti says that the concept Ignis is “bold and unconventional in many other ways and is set to create waves among India’s fast maturing compact car customers.” Launched in Japan last month, the Ignis is based on the all-new lightweight platform of the Suzuki Baleno. The mini crossover, at the tape, is 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width, and 1,595 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,435 mm.
The Ignis, Suzuki says, offers “versatility for daily life and leisure”, with a high view point, good ground clearance and capability to go on snowy roads and rough tracks. Boot volume comes in at 258 liters with rear seats in place, and 415 liters with them folded down.
Under the hood of the Japanese spec Ignis is a 1.25-liter K12C DualJet four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 91 PS @ 6,000 rpm and 118 Nm @ 4,400 rpm, coupled to a SHVS mild hybrid system with an electric motor that produces 3.1 PS and 50 Nm. CVT comes standard, while ALLGRIP AWD system as optional.
Expect the Maruti Ignis to launch in India later this year with the familiar 1.2-liter petrol and a 1.3-liter diesel engine, in the 2WD guise.
