Previewed to the public as Hyundai Carlino concept.
Hyundai’s first sub-4m SUV is reported to pack a 1.0-liter GDI engine, when it enters production. The production-spec sub-4m SUV was previewed as the Hyundai Carlino concept (HND-14) at the Auto Expo 2016.
If a Hyundai sub-4m SUV were to go into production, it will draw the boxy design cues from the Hyundai Carlino concept. No interior or engine details have been revealed so far.
In an interview with Business Insider, Young Key Koo, MD-CEO, Hyundai Motor India has divulged that the sub-4m SUV for India will only be made if there’s a demand in the market from customers, rather than for the sake of joining the bandwagon that comprises of Ford, Maruti, Mahindra and soon Tata.
When launched in the country, it will rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and the recently unveiled Maruti Vitara Brezza. It will also attract a wide audience towards Hyundai’s strong SUV lineup, which comprises of the soon-to-launch Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Santa Fe.
