The refresh gets a new digital instrument cluster and LED headlamps.
Volkswagen will be coming out with a Golf facelift in 2016 to keep it fresh until the next gen arrives in 2018. Here, German website Autobild has rendered their take. The website claims that the car will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, to be held in March.
The render shows a sporty front design with the LED headlights getting an angular design and sharp LED lines. The bumper has been redesigned and now has a wide grille with the fog lamps being placed on the upper portion of the bumper. Coming to the rear, the angular design of the headlamps are also seen on the tail lamps. The flat rectangular exhausts are chrome-finished with a shiny strip joining the two single exhausts on either side. A tailgate-mounted spoiler completes the exterior changes.
The interior of the 2016 VW Golf though not rendered is expected to be one of the finest in the segment. Apart from new materials and colours, the car will receive a digital instrument cluster as seen on the Passat, and a Head-Up Display.
The website states that the new three-cylinder unit, which produces 115 PS in the TSI BlueMotion variant will replace the 1.2-liter gasoline engine powering the current base variants on the 2016 VW Golf. It will also be 15 per cent more efficient than the old motor. Autobild also goes on to state that the GTE PHEV will feature the uprated powertrain of the Passat GTE and will thus produce 221 PS instead of 206.8 PS with 400 Nm of torque. Mild changes would be made to the steering and suspension, while the car would gain a trailer assist parking feature.
Though the facelift will get a host of new equipment and features, it is expected that there will not be a significant price hike.
