To compete with the Suzuki Gixxer 250.
RushLane reports that the TVS version of the BMW G310R will be a fully-faired sportsbike, not a naked model that was widely expected. The product is said to be codenamed the TVS U69. The move appears to have been made to avoid any chance of cannibalization between the TVS and BMW versions of the same project (with a common platform and powertrain), and to address the growing market of the sub-INR 2 lakhs fully-faired motorcycle segment.
Expected to be based on a tweaked version of the chassis and powertrain of the BMW G310R, it is unclear if the TVS-version will be a super sport (track-bred) model or a fully-faired sports tourer. Either way, it would compete with the KTM RC200, Bajaj Pulsar RS200, Honda CBR 250R and the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer 250.
It is reported that the model in question was also developed by BMW Motorrad in Munich and that only the production will be undertaken by TVS Motor Company. Both, the BMW G310R and the TVS counterpart, are expected to be rolled out of the Indian two wheeler maker's Hosur plant.

While the 313 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine on the G310R produces 34 PS and 28 Nm, the TVS model could feature the same engine in a slightly different state of tune. The same is expected with regard to the six-speed gearbox.
