More global models could be added to the portfolio, based on Baleno's performance.

In an interview with ET Auto, RC Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki, has stated that the success of Baleno could help build a better case of manufacturing and exporting global models from India.

Until the Baleno came along, Maruti exported products to African, Middle Eastern, few South American and ASEAN markets.

Mr Bhargava said:

Depending on the success of Baleno in the export market - especially in Europe and Japan - we would shape Suzuki's discussions going forward about making more new models in India and using them for exports

Until the Baleno came along, Maruti exported products to African, Middle Eastern, few South American and ASEAN markets. Given that more global products are on their way, such as the Suzuki Ignis, Maruti could soon increase the export portfolio, if parent company Suzuki sees fit.
