Could make world premiere at the 2016 New York International Auto Show in March.
Courtesy of IAB reader, Macrey Romero, a new spyshot of the Jeep 551 offers a closer look at the production-spec body. The sub-Cherokee model is expected to make its world premiere at the 2016 New York International Auto Show in March and could be called either the Patriot or the Compass.
Various renderings and spyshots depict that the Jeep 551 will head in the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s styling direction, sporting a refined and modern look. Although not seen in the spyshot, it will certainly have Jeep’s iconic seven slot grille flanked by small headlamps, and a clamshell hood. It rides on a high ground clearance, and could get black plastic cladding for better protection over off-road trails. The rear-end is slightly raked to the front, and appears to have wrap-around taillamps and a roof spoiler.
The Jeep 551 will be based on Jeep Renegade’s small-wide front-wheel drive platform. Engine lineup could include a 2.0-liter Tigershark petrol and 2.0-liter MultiJet II diesel, while a 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic could serve as transmission options. An AWD system is likely to be optional in higher grades.
