Will be based on the next gen Chevrolet Beat, also due in 2017.
ET Auto reports that Chevrolet has christened their first sub-4m sedan as the Chevrolet Beat Essentia. It will be based on the next generation Chevrolet Beat, and arrives in 2017. ET Auto reports that the Essentia will be showcased at the Auto Expo which starts on Feb 3, and that work on the car began in 2013.
The design of the next generation Beat hatchback will be previewed by the Chevrolet Beat Cross (Chevrolet Beat Activ) concept, at the Auto Expo this week. Chevrolet had also teased the design of the production-spec Chevrolet Beat for India at a SIAM conference last year. It is expected to look largely similar to 2016 Chevrolet Spark sold internationally, which follows Chevrolet's latest design language, but will be based on the current Beat's underpinning.
The report suggests that the engine lineup for the Chevrolet Beat Essentia will comprise of the same 1.0-liter XSDE diesel engine and 1.2-liter STEC II petrol engine sourced from the Beat. The former outputs 57.1 PS and 142.5 Nm of torque, while the latter is capable of 77.9 PS and 106.5 Nm of torque on the currently sold mini car.
